The first U-15 world title belongs to Spain.
David Gordo's team beat Czechia 3-0 at Baku Crystal Hall on Oct. 30 to win the top tier of the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival and finish the tournament undefeated.
Tiago Polo scored before halftime, and Bruno Fernández and Adrián Bielsa added second-half goals.
A different kind of World Cup
This wasn't a normal youth World Cup. Rather than a small qualified field, FIFA brought 189 member associations to Azerbaijan. Teams were sorted through a qualification stage into six tiers, each with its own winner. The Tier A winner is the official U-15 world champion.
The format gave many countries their first taste of a World Cup. FIFA said 78 of its member associations were making a World Cup debut in Baku.
Why it matters
Spain's senior men won the World Cup in July, and now their youngest age group has a world title too. It's another reminder of how strong Spain's youth system is, and the same birth cycle will be competing at U-17 and U-20 level soon enough.
