Toronto FC has kept one of Canada's top young talents. The club has signed 18-year-old midfielder Antone Bossenberry Romero to a Homegrown contract. The deal runs through the 2028-29 season, with club options for 2029-30 and 2030-31.
He has climbed every rung of the ladder. He came up through Toronto's academy, then posted 4 goals and 2 assists in 33 MLS NEXT Pro appearances for TFC II. He made his MLS debut in April and has three first-team appearances. He has also represented Canada at several youth levels.
He's been on the global radar for a while. In October 2025, The Guardian named him to its list of the 60 best young footballers in the world.
Antone has accelerated through our pathway after a strong first-team experience this preseason.
Why it matters on this side of the border: this is the kind of contract that keeps a top prospect in MLS rather than losing him to Europe at 18. With U.S. clubs fighting off European interest in players like Malik Jakupovic, Toronto's approach is worth watching.
